History of Servicon

Richard Mahdesian, the owner and founder of Servicon Systems, is one of the true pioneers in facility services. He started his “Total Service Package” concept as a lieutenant in charge of personnel at Edwards Air Force Base during the 1950’s. After his stint in the military, he was soon providing security and facility maintenance services at missile test sites across the country for the Atlas, Titan, and Minuteman missile systems. Mahdesian soon started his own corporation integrating facility services, security, and crowd management under one service contractor. Customers included the aerospace industry, large corporate facilities, sports complexes, and military installations.

In 1969 Richard sold his company to a major national security firm and remained on as a Division President. In the mid 1970’s, Richard and his wife Gloria co-founded Servicon Systems, Inc., which focused on janitorial and other building services in the aerospace, industrial, and commercial sectors. Within a few years, Servicon became the dominant facility contractor in the aerospace industry in the southwestern United States.

From our core business as a high quality janitorial contractor, Servicon soon developed expertise in clean rooms and labs, mail room management, general and preventative facility maintenance, landscaping, janitorial and restroom supplies, epoxy and urethane floor coatings, and providing skilled workers in highly restricted areas. This allowed each customer the convenience of choosing any or all of our services as needed.

In the 1990’s, Servicon’s various areas of expertise garnered enough business to establish divisions of excellence:

  • Green Cleaning for a Healthy Environment
  • Seal Coat Division
  • Specialty Services Group
  • Pacifica Consulting Services, janitorial supplies

Servicon, through its strategic growth plan has maintained its dominance in the aerospace and industrial sectors, expanded the health care sector as a major service provider to hospitals and medical centers through the acquisition of Pedus Health Care Division in 2006.

Today, Servicon has made every effort to be an industry leader in the quality of our operational processes, management systems, and state of the art technology, equipment and commitment to GREEN CLEANING. We centered our company goals around GREEN CLEANING and sustainable practices because we are passionate about being part of the solution. We also take the initiative to educate our customers and others about the necessity of GREEN CLEANING and its positive impact through tenant seminars and quality assurance inspection. Our passion is not only for the environment, but for the health and wellness of the adults and children who come in contact with the chemicals and processes used during cleaning everyday. We are paving the way to make GREEN CLEANING a well known solution to indoor air quality, productivity in the work place, minimizing the negative effects on the environment and furthering a great cause.

The future looks bright for Servicon. Michael Mahdesian, who in 2000 rejoined Servicon as Chairman after a seven year stint at the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development, says Servicon’s horizon is unlimited. “It is not our intent to be the biggest company in the industry, but to strive to be a great company, one that invests wisely in its people, grows strategically, is highly regarded for its quality, and has a positive impact on the workplace and outside environment.” We plan to be around for a long time.
